Green Fairy

It's been a long time in between posts for me. I had a wonderful Christmas break with the family. It was the first time in a long time that I was able to enjoy myself and not worry about what I needed to get done. My brother in-law Todd and his wife Shan were so nice to let us crash their house for a week and a half. We had good food, great parties and unbeatable movie nights in Todd's theater room. My mom took me to the Fabric Center to pick out fabric for my Christmas gift this year. Each year she has made a quilt for one of her children and it's finally my year. I have waited 7 years for this, but just because I am number 7 in the line up. I can't wait to get it, my bed has needed a new quilt on it for some time, but I have yet to make myself a quilt. I picked out fabrics from Simple Abundance by Bonnie and Camille. Gorgeous line! I was able to go to my uncles funeral, it was a sweet experience and I got to see a lot of cousin's I haven't seen in a long time. My sister Abby did my hair, it looks very similar to what I did here, but we put in a little more red! It was overall the best week and I am so glad we took time off to go up to Salt Lake.
Oh, and the best part about being up there was when I was brushing Lili's hair one night and she looked up at me and said "Mom, I am going to love you forever!" I just looked down at her and started to cry, then she said "Yeah, I was thinking about that." These little moments make being a mom the best job out there.
Last but not least is my "Green Fairy" doll. My sweet mother-in-law bought this doll several months ago and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. The doll is so beautiful and it was such a thoughtful gift. Now I have a "green fairy" to look at every day. The doll needs a name, so that's where I need some help. I want to name the doll and then I will use that name for an up and coming design. Any suggestions would be welcome. Leave a comment with your suggestion and the person's whose name I pick will be sent some prizes from me, aka the Green Fairy!
Thanks to everyone for making 2009 a successful year for Clint and me, and here's to 2010 and all it will bring! Now I definitely have to get back to work!

I tried to come up with a name that was along the lines of 'Tinkerbell', you know, like a fairy-tale name, but I couldn't. The only name I could come up with was Gabrielle. It just seems to fit, IMO.

Let's see....name, name, name.... I don't know why, but Cecilia sticks out to me! Lovely little Green Fairy she is!

Always,
Katy

Okay this may sound weird but I would call her Esmeralda. The green of her dress reminds me of an emerald and Esmeralda means emerald. Also my dad use to tease me as a child that he wanted to name me Esmeralda...that use to drive me crazy but now that he has passed away it is a very special memory for me. So that is the name I would chose, I hope you find the right name for you.

That was such a sweet story about your daughter......really touched me. My oldest when he was little said that he wanted to marry me when he grew up....it is those precious moments.

Why not name her Precious Lili after your sweet daughter.

Judi HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU & YOURS!
What a lovely little doll! I think you should call her: "Little Lasa".
Lasa in Irish means: Stitching,embroidery,sewing&knitting.

I would simply name her Emma or Emmy since it could be short for Emerald the Green Fairy. I love those two names and they'd be easy to pronounce for your kids and you. Also a shorter name gives her kind of a Pixie quality too, kind of impish I think! She looks a little bit impish but sweet on my monitor!

Somehow, she seems like a Carmen to me. Maybe I am associating Carmen Miranda with her head covering--LOL!

She reminds of a song by the Cowsills..The Rain The Park And Other Things..
"I saw her sitting in the rain
Raindrops falling on her
She didn't seem to care
She sat there and smiled at me
Then I knew (I knew... I knew... I knew... I knew)
She could make me happy (happy... happy)
(She could make me very happy)
Flowers in her hair (in her hair)
Flowers everywhere(everywhere)"

One orginal flower girl from the 60's was Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary.
I would name her Mary.

The name that came me is 'Grace', I kinda used the gr in 'greenfairy' for that but somehow she sort of does look like a Grace. Or if you wanted a combi name going with your daughter's name Lili-Grace.

I'm tell you...start keeping a journal to write down all these sweet memories you and your little ones share. They say some of the darnest things that WE THINK WE WILL REMEMBER forever....and we don't. I wish I would have written down so many cute little things along the way. I remember a handful but laughed and loved daily.
Your Green Fairy doll is sweet and so nice of your MIL. First glance tells me Isabella...it seems magical. Just as your patterns..magically inspires us quilters to want to make them.

Needled Mom said...

She is beautiful. I would name her MILliSCENT. MIL - for mother in law and SCENT because she looks like a sweet smelling flower (or that she was sent by your MIL. But....I'd call her Millie for short!!!! ;)

Such sweet words from a little ones mouth. Treasure them forever.

Happy New Year

My favorite Aunt on my mom's side of the family is my Aunt Nellie, and this doll reminds me of her, so I would name her Nellie.

She reminds me of a French cabaret singer. I think I would call her Yvette Feuille. Feuille is French for leaf and she appears to be wearing green leaves.

She looks so serene to me; so I would call her Serena. Sam (Sandra)

She's pretty, elegant, yet very fun. I think she looks like an Isabella. Old fashioned enough to be quite modern!!

I think the doll is beautiful, and all of the names that have been suggested are beautiful too. It is hard to pick a name sometimes, but I'd like to suggest Cassis (pronounced ka-sees). There used to be a fragrance called Sparkling Cassis that I loved. I think she sparkles :-) It is also the name of a flower we have here in Florida that attracts beautiful butterfies.

Kaye said...

It may sound crazy, but the name that hit me is Fairaleigh (fair-a-leigh). The story about your precious daughter brought a tear to my eye, I have 2 girls and they grow much too fast, so savor the moments. I do love those rough and tumble boys of yours.

Gwyneth, the green fairy. Gwyneth is welsh meaning fortunate. How very fortunate you are and will be 2010. She is a beautiful doll. I'm glad you enjoyed your time off. Be careful not to jump full force into everything you think needs doing just because you are back. Be sure to take time for those people who are going to love you forever. Take care.

I think she would be called India.

I would name her Musette and she can inspire you.

She's definately Colleen.

The green remindes me of four leaf clovers, Ireland, and of course-- fairies! So she's a pretty Irish lass (or fairy)-- a Colleen, the perfect name!

She is so beautiful and sweet. I think Carmela, which means sweet.

She is a real beauty and I would name her Gretta!

I would name her Bonnie Greene Blossom!

Ok, so I'm a Google geek. When I saw her picture I thought:elegant, beautful, royalty. So, I did a google search to find a name that "fit" what she looked like to me. Here's what I found that struck my fancy.

Ella means "beautiful fairy" but even that seemed rather plain for her. There are variations that I liked: Ellina and Ellette.

Then there's the Fairy Queen Titania but I liked the spelling Tatiana more.

I also liked Shaylee which means fairy princess.

Hmm...and Sabrina or Brynna or Breena even Bryana which all have meanings to princesses or the "fairy land" itself.

Okay since you asked for more, I will share my favorite names I have come across. (I work in Human Resources, so I see a LOT! ;))

Quince
Ghada (pronounced Hahdah)
Glorioso (Glo or Glori for short)
Mia-Lynn
Leandra
EmmaLeigh

Hope this helps!

Inger Dulce (sweet angel in Romanian) Dulce for short?
Mariposa (spanish for butterfly) she kind of reminds me of the barbie mariposa they came out with a few years ago!

Your little doll should be called "Beauty" along with your up and coming design. That is the word I thought of as soon as I saw her.

I like Merina, sounds exotic to me, a mix of the words marine (soothing water) and aquamarine (beautiful blue-green water) I think it suits her.

Judi, sounds like your year is off to a wonderful start and I agree with Mary from Quilt Hollow that you need to journal these special moments, even the ones that don't seem so special at the time. It is wonderful to look back over. Truly! Now, about that beautiful doll, as soon as I saw her, I thought, 'Heartsong'. Yup, an odd name for a doll but one that stikes a cord with me from memories of a doll, with a face much like this from my youth. For some reason I told my mother that the doll made my heart sing and she in turn told me that would be a good name for her. So there you have it. Oh, and the quilt you did for Nedra is beautiful. Your work just never ceases to amaze me. You are unbelievably talented. (and you know I'm not looking for brownie points cause I've told you this very thing a million times...LOL) Good luck to everyone in the giveaway.

I am in awe of your beautiful work and look forward to each posting!

I am a librarian and the big push for young adult books includes books about fairies, so I looked back through several of the books that I have read this year for ideas and also did an Internet search on fairy lore! Below are several:

Feeorin -austrian- A small green fairy who loves dancing and music.
Abella ~ ~ 'the beautiful'
Amelinda ~ ~ 'the loved and beautiful'
Ariella ~ ~ 'ethereal' 'airy'
Liriope ~ ~ flower 'Lily'
LilyBelle ~ ~ 'beautiful Lily'
Iridessa
Liliana - Gracious Lily
