What have I done???

I had to take a picture of my scraps for my bright quilt. I love the fabric that piles up when I cut out a quilt. I wish I knew what creative thing to do with them, right now the scraps just end up in quilt heaven, aka the trash can.

With all that I have to do, want to do and need to do, why did I take on this quilt? I am going to enter it into a quilt show in May and I need to get it done while I am in between customer quilts and my new design sample quilts. So, this first row has taken me six hours, I just barely finished it and can now turn it, wish me luck with the seven rows left!

Well, first of all the pile of bright scraps is really quite pretty...lol. I keep a plastic trash bag by cutting area and put all my 'trash' scraps in it, fabric and batting only, no other trash...then stuff pet beds with them...it's surprising how fast one of those black trash bags fills up!!! I also donate them to the local humane society and they use them for animal bedding. Ever noticed how soft and fluffy that bag full of scraps is??? Well, the pets love them and they can be thrown in the washer and dryer and fluff right back up like new. They also last forever. It eases that feeling that I wasting fabric.

That quilt is totally and I do mean totally awesome...can't wait to see it finished.

I can't stand to throw away any fabric what so ever. I have an ever growing scrap box as we speak, I even think it keeps growing during the night.....what is up with that?

I have been to your website, it is really wonderful and so tempting....I have to tell myself no but there will always be that one thing that a no just will not do....

I know what you mean about scraps. I saw a fabric bowl done with wrapping the scraps around a 3/8" rope and then this was sewn on the machine as well. Very cute and I will make one this summer at the cottage. The tutorial was on a site called "craftstylish"
I love brights also and it's hard for me to do anything other than happy colours. Great quilt!

No, No, No!!! You paid good money for that fabric and look at those scraps as tossing $$$. There are numerous things to make with those scraps! Save them! I'm friend's with Bonnie at Quiltville....she would be stunned to see this! Gosh I wish you could hear a lecture from her...anyway, if you decide to still toss them I will pay for shipping them to Bonnie. I have to tell you this story...my son has two pet rats. Bonnie and I had been stitching and I was trimming the batting and excess fabric off the sides of a quilt I had just finished. I set the wad of trim batting & fabric aside and said for the rat's bedding. Bonnie jumped up and snagged the fabric from the batting. She has even been known as the trash can shopper. Too funny!

Shoot....got so excited about the $$$ loss in tossing scraps that I forgot to mention how gorgeous that quilt is coming along....should be with 6 hours per turn of the quilt! OUCH! Stretch and take breaks!!!!

Judi, not sure where you live, but here in NC, it's starting to feel like Spring and the birds are just beginning to build nests. One thing you can do with *some* of your scraps - the long thin pieces, anyway - is to put them out on your porch, in a basket or on a tree branch. The birds will use them in their nests. I love thinking of baby birdies (sort of) wrapped up in my quilt! :-)

Lovely quilting and the 360 minutes of hard work shows. Pretty scraps for a scrap quilt.

Lots of microstippling. I did a little of that on a wall quilt and boy was I tired. I will think of you while you do the next seven (7) rows. LOL

Hi, I was looking at your beautiful quilt again and your pile of scraps (also beautiful...LOL) and then I read over my original post and realized that I didn't clarify something about the scraps that I used for pet beds. The ONLY fabric scraps that go into the 'bed bag' are pieces that are smaller than 1 1/2inches sqare, or strips that are narrower than 1 inch. I do lots of sampler style blocks that have smaller pieces in them and I just can't bring myself to toss anything I deem possibly large enough to use some day. As far as the extra batting and fabric I cut away to prep a quilt for binding...none of that goes in the 'bed bag' because if the batting is more than 4 or 5 inches wide, it can be used in coasters, pot holders, etc. Besides, I'm in the process of making a charm quilt made of 2 1/2 inch square. It's a millenium quilt so it will have 2000 squares in it and none should be duplicates. I only have about 600 squares so as you can see, nothing large enough to go into my 'M' quilt can go in the bed bag. I didn't realize how hard it would be to collect 2000 squares for my quilt but the 10 rows I have completed are beautiful and I can't wait to collect enough squares to finish it. Anyway, just wanted to clarify that...LOL. I was feeling a little guilty after reading some of the other posts **blush**. Also wanted to ask how your back is feeling after working more on that amazing quilt?
