My tree is ready, but I am not...............

I love my Christmas tree, about six years ago my sister Jen took me to Taiwan Imports and we got everything I needed for my Christmas tree, she decorated it to perfection. Each year I add a couple more things to it and try to make it look good compared to the original one Jen designed. I had to let go of some of my control and let the kids decorate with me, Lili really enjoyed it and she helped me put everything on. We had a great time, now we are just spending all day telling the boys not to touch the tree, (how many more days til Christmas again??)


So, the tree is up, I haven't even thought about what to get Clint yet, the kids, well, we will come up with something I am sure. Did I ever tell you that I hate shopping? Well, I hate shopping for anything other than fabric. Thankfully Clint does all the grocery shopping, anyway, point is I wait until the last week to finish shopping for Christmas and each year I plan on being better and being finished before the week of Christmas. But, once a procrastinator, always a procrastinator right?
Oh, and I have to apologize for the valance hanging above my window (it's horrible). Clint took some would be bags from years ago and pinned them to a 2 x 2 and stuck them above the window to motivate me to make something for the window. That's been months now, and who has time to do their own projects? I wish I did.

Life Happens part 2

So, Micah decided to slam the door on Jonah's finger and nearly took off the tip of his finger. It was sliced all the way through the nail bed and the finger was barely attached in the back. Did I panic? Yes, and I am a little bit paranoid now. Two ER visit's for two different kids in 8 days is a little much for me. These kids are going to put me through the ringer. I don't know what I am going to do. So the picture above is the aftermath of stitches, five to be exact and this time Clint had to watch our other kids so I had to be brave and listen to Jonah scream the entire time, it was horrible. I love being a mom, but come on! I need some break in between these tragedies.


I just had my phone, so I got a couple pictures from that. Jonah was extra cuddly and let me just hold him.


So, big ole bandage for a small little finger, let's hope he keeps this bandage on for two days they told me to leave it on. Two weeks we get the stitches out. He may end up having a funny finger nail, but at least he has his finger. To sum it up our boys are going to cost us a fortune and now all our money is going to go to the ER, so if you are feeling up to it go and check out our store and buy some stuff!

What I am thankful for............

I have had a moment to think about what I am grateful for and I would like to share them with you. First I am thankful for a loving God who has blessed me with my husband, my children, and my talents. My life has been a wonderful (crazy) journey and each new day is an adventure and at times I don't always realize how much I have, but at this Thanksgiving time it has given me the time to reflect on what is truly important and how being thankful for what I have changes my life for the better. So, here's a small list of some things I am thankful for, the four most important things already mentioned.

*Milk - I love it and I couldn't live without it!
*Judge Judy - she makes me laugh, can't help it.
*The toddler diaper sound - the sound the diaper makes when your baby runs ( I love it!)
*Homemade smoothies - it's the only way to sneak spinach in all my kids meals :)
*Running - it helps get rid of anxiety, at least for the duration of the run!
*Fabric - do I have to explain why?
*Discovery Health
*Quiet moments - really rare around our house.
*My Sewing Machine
*My parents


My list could go on and on, but that might get boring! What are you thankful for?

A favorite!

Amongst all the hubbub of last week, (thanks for the well wishes, Micah is doing fine) I did manage to get a couple quilts done. This particular quilt is by far my favorite quilt. I had a really hard time giving this one up today. I just love it. I did small pebbling in the main focus blocks and on the edges I did the shadowing. Great effect I think and it did save some time, I normally would pebble all the blocks, but I really like this look

Life Happens........

Today was like any other day, except Micah decided to trip on a shoe while running to turn off the dvd player and gashed his head into the corner of the tv cabinet. I took a picture of the wound, but it makes me a little queasy, so I won't be showing you. It was about an inch across and about 1/4 inch deep, all the way to the bone. I failed in the reaction area, I was freaking out telling Clint we need to get Micah to the hospital. Crying was involved as well, not so much Micah, but me.
Thankfully I have an awesome friend Janae who was over here at our house in minutes so Clint and I could take Micah to the hospital.


This stitching is an amazing technique, I figure I am good at stitching but I would never trust myself to do this. I tell you, it was really hard watching my little guy go through this.


Micah really did well, he screamed when they gave him numbing shots, but then he just relaxed and held Clint's hand (I couldn't watch, up close at least) and fell asleep. He didn't move at all during the stitching and we were so proud. The doctor's and nurses were amazed because they didn't have to sedate him.


The final product, 3 stitches inside and 8 on the outside. What an event, please let's not do that again. I am not the calm parent at all. Clint was remarkably calm and just enjoyed watching the whole thing, must be a Dad thing.



All better, Micah got some string cheese and he was great. Slap a band-aid on and there you go. I really don't want to have to do anything like this again, but I figure since we have kids, odds are something else will happen in the future, just not the near future I hope.

Another quilt..................

I simply loved this quilt. I did a lot of quilting, but it isn't tight quilting. I put this quilt, made by Dawn, on my bed and just looked at it all day. I really wanted to keep this one. I plan on having a new quilt for my bed someday, but you know, so little time with so many things to do. I never seemed to be caught up.

Feathers Anyone?

This amazing quilt called "Fresh Cut Flowers" was pieced by Virginia Affleck. Amazing, simply amazing. I was totally nervous to quilt this quilt because she only spent like 400 hours piecing this thing. Wow, a lot of work.


I just had fun with feathering on this quilt, this quilt needed something beautiful and flowwy, feathers are perfect for that.


I used silver Highlight thread from Superior Threads for the background feathers and silver metallic thread for the flowers.




Well, pictures never give the quilts justice, but you get the idea. It took me 25 hours to quilt this one and so for one quilt a grand total of 425 hours of work, I am just glad I had the 25 hours, 400 hours takes a lot of patience and I am not there yet!

My all time favorite patterns..........and a giveaway!

I have a few patterns that are definitely my favorite. I love all of my patterns, but these three patterns are the ones that make me extra happy. I look at my quilt samples often, and these three always stick out to me. So, I thought it would be fun to share with you what my favorite Green Fairy Quilts patterns are.

Butterfly Mania - I just love this quilt because of the happy butterflies and the bright colors. I love bright quilts.

Checkered Flowers - This quilt is probably my all time favorite pattern, it's easy because it is strip pieced and fun with the flower appliques, but I think I like it the most because I love purple. Purple was my favorite color as a child, that has since changed because I do tend to love green (I wonder why?) but it reminds me of some of my favorite things as a kid - flowers and purple.


Morning Bloom - This is one of my newer quilt patterns, I love the colors, can't go wrong with pink and green right? The piecing is easy and the applique even easier because it has the ragged effect. I just love this quilt!

My first magazine debut...............

I am so excited to have my "Life of a Snowman" wall hanging pattern featured in "Quilter's World" magazine. I have known since last year that it was going to be in the December 2009 issue and it has been a long wait! So, today I called Barnes and Noble to see if they had the current issue (they did, hurray!) and I took off in my PT Cruiser and went and bought two issues. One magazine for looking and sharing and the other for safe keeping. Yeah, I am so excited! Go out and get yourself a copy, it's a great magazine!

Back in the saddle again......

So last week we can call it a bust because Clint's family was here (we had a wonderful time) but I didn't get much done. This quilt is another Emily quilt. I put it on the frames last week and finished it last night. That will tell you how much I didn't get done last week. But I loved this one, it's a lot like her "napkin" but there was more feathering in this quilt and it was a lot bigger.


I call this the worm, but I think it's a pretty worm and it fits well with the design of the quilt.


I tried and tried to imagine how to start and end this feather and after a lot of thinking and wash out pen, this is what I came up with.

More quilting and a small feather design.


Another worm, I should come up with a better name than "worm" but you get the idea. Any suggestions for something better?


I played with this picture, it's the back of the quilt, but I used the "Vintage" special effect so that you could see the quilting. I think I like it!
