Just Call Me Modern? A new quilt pattern!

JCMM1
Okay, so I live in a desert playground.  This area, Snow Canyon is just 20 minutes away from me.  I decided I wanted to try the red rock backdrop for my newest quilt design.  I am always so happy when I take the time to visit the incredible places around me.

JCMM2
Anyway, I give you - Just Call Me Modern? This is an original quilt design by me.  I thought it would be fun to play on the whole "Modern" quilting thing.  People have asked me what my quilting style is and I am not sure what category you would put me in.  I love traditional piecing and I always will, but I love to add my own style to it.  Isn't the backdrop just gorgeous?

 JCMM3
I finished this quilt a few months ago, minus the binding.  The plan was to save it for my second book idea, but really - I have been too impatient for that and realized it would be way more fun to come up with new ideas and release this pattern now.

 JCMM4
The quilting was time intensive, but oh so worth it.  The best part? It's all mine.  I can not tell you how happy I am to have my own quilt exactly like I planned it and to keep it is even better.

JCMM5
Every block in this quilt was given its own special quilting treatment.

JCMM6
So the four-triangle squares in the middle of the quilt?  Love.

JCMM7
I had so much fun taking pictures with my sister today - this picture is one she took and I absolutely love it.  We only had one issue of the quilt being blown off the rock because of wind.  But, thankfully it did not get too dirty.

JCMM8
I love the colors in the quilt and the red rocks are such a compliment to the quilt.

JCMM9
Love.

JCMM10

JCMM11
So the quilting on this quilt took me over 35 hours.

JCMM12
You can see why here.  Best part of this pattern, as a bonus I will also be including the instructions on how to quilt this super cute square motif that is bouncing around in the quilt.

 JCMM13
Here's what the whole quilt looks like.  I just love it!

JCMM14
Quilting texture that makes my heart sing.  Seriously, have I told you I love what I do?

JCMM15
I love the frame I created for the above block.

JCMM16
So, what do you think?  Do you like how I continued the quilting as if the white strip with squares was not even there?

JCMM17
I still love it.  I don't think I will get tired of looking at this quilt, ever!

JCMM18

JCMM19

So, I give you Just Call Me Modern?  I am so happy with it.  I hope you are too.  I have it available as a pattern on my website for pre-order now.  I will be shipping the paper patterns out around November 25 and that is when the PDF patterns will be available as well.

Thanks for letting me share this with you!

What an amazing design. Beautiful fabrics, colors, free-motion quilting. And, of course, I love the photo staging shots. Great job. I think this is going to be a very popular pattern. Love it.

I am going to try it in batiks! Some of the parts look tricky, others more basic. So--looks like I'll learn a few new moves when I give it a try. Perfect. The quilter I send my things to will have a grand time working her magic.

Every single quilt you quilt is fabulous, but you have outdone yourself on this one. That's why you love what you do, it's your talent. And I'd love to live where you do, the scenery is simply majestic. Thank you for sharing your quilts!

Wow Judi! I say the photo shoot was a great success! The backdrop is perfect with the colors and the definition of the quilting... The quilt is just stunning and e quilting takes it over the top. I can see why you would want to look at it all day! Thanks so much for all of the fine pictures and congratulations on a unique and beautiful pattern!

The quilting is killer! :-)) love the aqua and chocolate brown together. Good job!

Missy said...

The colors are wonderful - I love the bold, warm look to it. The only problem is if I were to make the quilt, I'd want the quilting like this, too! Which would be quite impossible - you do an amazing job.

Wonderful quilt and backdrop!

Amazing quilt Judi and the location for photos really is a stand out. Not sure I could have put that quilt with white down on that red dirt though? I love this pattern but like the photos not sure I could take a rotary cutter and slice up the top. And the quilting is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

This is an outstanding quilt!! Wow, beautiful!!! The quilting sings perfectly with the piecing. I was just up in your neck of the dessert, a beautiful place indeed.
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie

I look forward to drowning in even more fabulousness in the future. Meanwhile I have a book and a pattern to pre-order.

I love that quilting!!! How amazing you are. I don't know that I would have the patience to do that much detail work, currently, but I love to think that sometime in my future I would be able to devote that much time to quilting. Thank you for sharing such an amazing inspiration piece.

Love the pattern and of course your quilting has taken it "over the top" You must have had so much fun with your sister taking those pictures. They simply make the quilt shine.

Dear Judy

Hope you enter this one in a quilt competition. It is a excellent example to explain negative space, which I showed my son, as he is doing negative space in photography at school. When it is is not quilted, it is flat where the white is, but the energy is created with the quilting and trapunto (raised effects).

Keep up the inspiration.

Julianne said...

Beautiful... I love it to.

Love it Judi! Curious. How many hours did it take you to do this? You are my hero. Wish I had half as much creativity and talent as you do. Quilt is wonderful and the quilting puts it over the top.

Your quilts are always amazing, but this is one of my favorite ones EVER. The quilting is amazing, but I just love the quilt pattern itself. Love it!

Kate C said...

Wow, truly wonderful! Love love love the quilt pattern, full of movement and interest...and as usual, the quilting puts it over the top. I love the way you quilt over adjoining pieces, it makes the quilting as important as the piecing...I envy the beautiful place you live in, so much sunshine and such gorgeous places to explore!

Love your creativity! Awesome colors, pattern and quilting!

Rebecca Grace said...

Well, of course it's gorgeous, if YOU made it! :-) What most blew me away was your bravery, faith in angels, or whatever it was that enabled you to take that magnificent WHITE background quilt with so many hours of work in it and lay it in what looks like RED CLAY EARTH?! I am glad it didn't get dirty, or blown away, or carried off by a bald eagle or something crazy like that. It's beautiful, Judi!
