Another finish for Beth!

bq1

I am always thrilled to quilt for Beth, she is a long time customer of mine and I always love her quilts. She is the applique queen and the colors of her quilts are always so fun. I asked her to tell me about this particular quilt and here is what she said:

This has been one of my favorite quilts.  It was a BOM called “Let’s Twist Again” by Sue Ross thru Material Obsession.  It was a great learning quilt.  It had everything from paper piecing to templates to appliqué. I hand pieced most of the blocks but of course added the machine when I could.  Material Obsession website offers several BOMs about once a year, usually starting in the late summer.   I am just infatuated with the Australian and English quilters.  The Australian quilters use color like I have never seen and the English for their incorporation of old techniques with new colors-the hexagons.

Okay, so I only used one layer of batting this time - Quilter's Dream I think, and I love that stuff!  I need to get some of my own.  I used Magnifico thread for the top and So Fine for the bottom.  I chose to use gold thread because I think it pulled in all the colors of the quilt together.  This quilt took me 23 hours to quilt and I quilted most of it last week.

  bq2
I chose to do a "simpler quilting" design on this quilt because of the fabrics. I didn't want to take away from the quilt, just wanted to add to it.  It's funny that my simpler quilting designs still take so long, I have to constantly tell myself that it's okay to not add more detail.

  bq3
A lot of stitch in the ditch, straight lines and a bit of marking went into the quilt.

bq4
Connecting curves always compliment the design in a quilt.

bq5
What I loved about the border was that I didn't have to mark it! Such a great border fabric and a simple crisscross pattern sets it off nicely.

bq6
Free motion feather swirl ;-)

bq7
Each one of these blocks are so unique and fun, what a great pattern this is.

bq8
Favorite block ;-)

bq9
Have I ever told you I love quilting?

bq10
The texture on this quilt just makes me want to sing! Sorry, getting a little cheesy here....

bq11
Love!

bq12
Wait, I think this was my favorite block!

bq13
Yeah, my favorite!

bq14
And, it looks cool on the back too!

So, three quilts done in as many weeks of this month. I am happy with the progress I have made with my quilting and I hope to be able to continue the schedule like the past few weeks.  Next quilt is going on the frames tonight!  Wish me and my back some luck - I think I need to start lifting weights ;-)

I too love what the Australians do with color and patterns - you just do not see the same stuff here. Fantastic quilt - I love quilters dream batting - it is the one I use for almost all of my quilts.

That is one, gorgeous quilt, your quilting made it a work of art! Some day, if I ever get more than two nickels to rub together (ha ha!), I would love to get one of my quilts done by you. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? ;-)

I LOVE how that gold thread jumps out of the magenta/ purple areas. Wow!

Beautiful! Your quilting is amazing, Judi. Someday I hope to make a quilt that you will quilt. Nice dream to keep me working on my skills!

Love the quilting! Think the gold thread works perfectly. Also like the feather swirls. These aren't a little different from the last ones I saw you do. They kind of look like shells. Really like them!

The Magnifico works quite nicely. I've been wanting to try it. May have to get the gold. Lifting weights helps with your back? How about your choice of shoes? I need new ones and am thinking of Alegria's. Hugs!

Beautiful quilt and beautiful quilting!

Beth is very talented, and so are you. This quilt is spectacular, and I love the little criss-cross thing you did on the stripes. Less imaginative folks (like me) would have just quilted along the stripe lines...

So, 23 hours, hunh? How big is this quilt? Do you have pricing guidelines anywhere on your site that would give me an idea of what this kind of quilting would cost? Some day I will make a big King quilt top and send it to you... I need to know how much to save up for the quilting! :-)

This quilt is unbelievable!! Your work is - I can't think of words to describe!!! Glad you think it was simple ;-)

What a gorgeous quilt and amazing quilting (as you always do)! I have a technical question for you. I am finishing up piecing a Judy Niemeyer quilt with a large Lone Star. I plan on doing the Continuous or Connecting Curves in the star part. Do you SID each piece in the star in addition to the curves (fourth picture in this post)? This is a "Bucket List" quilt for me and I have been really working on my FMQ--I really want to get this one right. I will quilt this on a sit-down 16" quilter. Thanks!

This is a stunning quilt. I'm a lover of Australian quilts too. And as always your quilting brings it to life. I'm always looking closely to see your designs and marvel at your consistency. You inspire me to see the possibilities in quilting a quilt. Thank you.

Oh, good grief! I'm happy if my corners match! What a true heirloom. Between the piecing and the quilting - magnificent!

What amazing pictures! I mean, quilt and quilting of course too!

Oh, gosh, I am speechless. Wow.

Beutiful quilting! What does it cost to have you quilt? And how much would the shipping be to Germany? Are your prices by the square meters (or yards)? As much as I love to quilt myself, sometimes it would be nicer to have something so professionally quilted :-)

Just saw this after traveling all week- WOW! I love the job you did on this beautiful quilt. As always full of ideas and inspiration!

Well, you have done it again, another lovely quilting job. I wonder about your back hurting, though... can you adjust the height of your machine? I do work out, and that helps my machine quilting immensely. My favorite is the kick boxing class at my local YMCA. it is not as extreme as it sounds, but has really helped my upper body strength... I know it's hard to think about adding anything to your schedule, but you need to take care of yourself, so you can keep us all inspired!
