Little Quilting Projects.

I have been busy doing little quilting projects. These sweet quilts were put together by Kathy, she works at Scrap Apple Quilts. The quilts are for twins, I can't believe how cute the quilts turned out, but you could quilt these anyway and it would still be cute because the fabric is so darling.

Check out the cute baby! Aggh, I can't stand it, I love this quilt.

Look at the square blocks, the babies were fussy cut and put in exactly in the middle of the blocks, (I wish I had noticed that in the blue quilt). Kathy is an excellent piecer, the quilts were so straight, and the seams perfect. That makes my job so much easier.

Here's the blue baby! I love this one too, how fun to have a boy and a girl at once!

These little little projects were done by Emily, she always has fun quilts and I enjoy quilting for her, (Emily- I will call you soon, or you can call me and get your quilts. Sorry to post before you saw the quilts or "napkins" in person).

Here's one of the blocks, just some fun funky quilting to go with the bright quilt.

The above three pictures were the backs of the small quilts. Emily uses a kind of suede fabric for her backs and the quilting just pops, it's so fun. I love the back of these quilts.

On a serious note, I was watching the news tonight and heard of the Tsunami and Earthquake in American Samoa. Barb of Bejeweled Quilts lives in Pago Pago and I pray that she and her family are alright, please keep her in your prayers. God bless everyone in that region of the world.

First off I want to thank everyone for entering my giveaway and all the sweet compliments. I wish I could have responded to everyone's comment, but life is a little crazy at this point. So, without dragging it out too much the random winner of my pattern and "Layers of Love" project is:

Congratulations and please email me your address at judi@greenfairyquilts.com and I will get your prize sent right out!

And to celebrate my new patterns for the next 3 days I am offering my patterns at buy 2 get 1 free. Just be sure to mention which pattern you want free in the comments section at checkout.

Here's a quilt I have been working on this week. It was a simpler quilting design for me, but I think it worked with this quilt because there is so much piecing in the quilt that I didn't want to take away from the beauty of it.

I loved quilting the flowers in this quilt.

Here's a shot of the borders.

This was a fun project, Heather of Superior Threads asked me to quilt some silk for a jacket she is going to have made for her. I was a little nervous, but she told me to quilt it however I wanted, so that made the decision really easy for me. Plus she gives me awesome thread to try out, this time it was metallic thread. The thread is amazing, it highlights the shine of the fabric.

This is a shot with part of what the silk looked like before I quilted it. If you are wondering, this quilting was all free-hand motion on my A-1 long-arm.

Believe it or not, this is the back. This is one of those times where I thought the back was just as pretty as the front.

New, New & New!!!!!

I have two new patterns! Yahoo! I have had a fun time putting these two quilts together. The quilts are "Layer Cake" patterns and I love love love them! What do you think?

My baby boy loves to cuddle with quilts and every time I put a quilt down on the floor he jumps right on and gives them a little love.

He also just sits down as soon as I put a quilt on the floor and won't move!

So, what do you think? I am so excited to release these new patterns.

I am so excited for my new patterns that I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway. The above picture is what I am giving away, plus the pattern. I first started putting together "Layers of Love" using Beach House Fabric, but Moda was kind enough to send me some more current fabric and I ended up using it instead. The giveaway includes a honeybun and the fabric squares that I have already cut and the hourglass blocks all put together. You will have all you need to make the quilt, except for some background fabric and a binding.
To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment! For you extra hard working bloggers who want to tell your friends about my giveaway, you get five entries into the giveaway.
Oh, and before I forget, what do you think of my new background? I love it so much. Leelou of Leelou blogs arranged it for me and she did a marvelous job. I will be letting you know more about why I changed my look in a bit, but until then enter the giveaway - you have until Thursday afternoon and I will post the winner on Thursday night! Good luck!

Charity Video

I have been trying to get back into the groove of things. Getting a week behind in quilting is not an option in my opinion, but the experience I had being able to go to Romania was well worth it. Clint and I had a wonderful and rewarding trip. I had imagined the trip to be a little different than it was, but it turned out great. Last year when Clint went, he really didn't have a plan. He just had a bunch of quilts and was determined to give them out to people in need. The people he helped were really destitute and didn't have anything, so the joy of receiving a quilt made them happy. When it was decided that I was going, I told Clint that I needed a little more organization to the trip and we were lucky enough to get a hold a man in Romania whom Clint has worked with before and this man (Vali) arranged for us to be able to go to the orphanages. Vali picked us up at the airport and drove us to the city of Pitesti, the city is about an hour and a half outside of Bucharest. The following morning we woke up early and headed to the Social Work office where they run all the ophanages. It was a long process going from one person to the next in order of rank. The whole time I just sat in confusion as everyone was conversing in Romanian, including Clint, so I was completely clueless. But I guess they take donations seriously and we had to sign papers and give them the count of all the quilts. We also had funds to use on anything that they needed in the orphanage, but we wouldn't find out what they needed until we visited the orphanage. They kept telling us to not give money because it would disappear and that the kids weren't in orphanages, but in homes where "children with family issues" lived. The whole "politically correct" thing exists everywhere I guess.
All in all we had 51 quilts donated and there were 36 small children in the orphanage we planned with Vali to go and visit, but the orphanage was about an hour and a half away and they wouldn't let us visit the orphanage unless they had a social worker go with us. So, it worked better for them to have us visit the orphanage the following day. In the meantime though, they did have a group home for children with mental disabilities where we were able to take 15 of the quilts to. Unfortunately we weren't able to get pictures of that orphange. So, if you donated a quilt and don't see it in our video, it was given to the group of kids with mental disabilities.
I guess for a moment I struggled because on the outside it looked like these children are well taken care of and they have a place to live and their basic needs were being met, so I wondered if it would make a difference at all that they were receiving a quilt. I guess I pictured what Clint did last year with the people on the street and was hoping for that same experience. But when we went to the ophanage with the small children the following day, my mindset changed. I can't describe to you how it was to give each child a quilt all of their own. The smiles on their faces were thanks enough. I realized that they do have a place to stay and people to look after them, but they don't have a mom and dad like my kids do, they don't get tucked in at night with a loving parent and their caretakers change a lot, so the constant love isn't there. They don't have anything that is their own, so for them to have their own quilt was an amazing gift.
After we handed out the quilts to the children we asked the director of the orphanage what they needed, she told us that the kids from 18 months to 2 years old didn't have any age appropriate toys to play with and that the older children needed toys and school supplies for drawing and what not. So we drove to the Supermarket and bought all that we could. It was fun just grabbing handfuls of supplies and toys realizing that because of donations, we were able to do it. We returned to the orphanage with the toys and supplies. The workers were amazed and so thankful for the generosity. They were so excited that the children would be able to have these new toys and supplies. It was an amazing experience, and I feel lucky that I was able to go. All the quilt and money donations were amazing and I have to thank all of you for making it possible for us to be able to be the messengers and give these kids something from the heart. I am always amazed at the generosity of people, there it a lot of good in the world and I am glad that we have been able to make a difference to a few lives, even if it was a small difference.

We are home!

After a whirlwind trip that was as fast paced as it possibly could be, we are finally home. We will be working on pictures of the orphanage, and the video for your viewing pleasure, but here are a few shots of our trip. There are a few things that we take advantage of here in America, like the picture above, we can't actually touch the telephone wires. Convenience is a huge thing here too, we don't have to walk everywhere and the Banks and Fast Food are all drive through. If we want to go shopping, we go to one place, usually Wal-Mart (I confess, I am guilty) and all that you need is there. Also, water, we had to buy it everyday in a bottle, and couldn't drink from the drinking fountains or from the tap if we wanted to stay healthy.

Here's a shot of Clint in the Piata (Flea Market) in Pitesti. Isn't he adorable? I think so.

Not the best picture of me, but I did love this table cloth.

We were able to go to a Monastery in Curtea de Argues, Romania. It was beautiful.

Finally, a shot of the orphanage we visited, we weren't aloud to take pictures of the face of the children, but we did get a lot of video. You will be able to see that in our video, hopefully we will have that soon.

All of you that have placed orders, Clint will get them out today and tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone who helped, we can't wait to show you all the pictures and video.

Do I look nervous?

Okay, I have a cheesy grin on my face, but I am completely nervous. What is it about airplanes that make me think I am going to die soon? Just kidding, we will be fine, I really have been good not to be nervous too much and the kids are going to be fine. I am excited about leaving to bring the quilts to the orphans. We drove in to Salt Lake this morning and took my mom to lunch and had to get a quick handful of raspberries from my Dad's garden. I love his yard!

Oh yummy! The raspberries were excellent. Well, wish us luck, we will be boarding in a half hour. Talk to you in a week or so! Oh, the nervousness has subsided a little knowing we have a layover in Paris.

In all walks of life I meet amazing people!

This is Emily, she is hiding behind one of her quilts, she is the cute one in the cowboy hat. I have done a few quilts for Emily, one you may remember as the "Bikini Quilt." I was talking to her one day and mentioned that I was short a few quilts for the Romania Trip and that's all I had to say because during the last couple weeks she has put together and had 11 quilts finished for me to take to Romania. What an amazing person. She is so great, so I just wanted to thank her for all she has done. We are at our goal of 40 quilts and I believe we will have a few more, I will give a final count when I am all packed on Saturday.

Another amazing person, and someone who has gone over and beyond the call of duty is Kelly of I Have a Notion. She put together a yard sale and gave all the proceeds to our charity, she raised over $500.00 dollars. I can't thank her enough and can't wait to help the children in the orphanage.

We have received several quilts from a lot of you, thank you so much. I hope you all know how much this means to Clint and me, we couldn't have met our goals for the orphanage without your help. So thank you so much.

I am still working on the magazine quilt, I wish I could show you, but it will have to wait. One more thing, if you have been our friend on Facebook, we re-did our page with more pictures and we will be doing live giveaways and stuff like that, so go and be our friend by clicking on the link at the left, and if you have been our friend already, you will need to request to be our friend again (sorry about that).
