It's been a little weird getting back to some kind of normal after all of my traveling this spring. On Monday I was totally desperate to finish something of my own. I made the mistake of going to the store and buying some butter mints to enjoy while I finished sewing the last two rows of Metro Rings. I ate the whole bowl all by myself. I really have a lack of self control in the sweets area of my life.
So, I finished my Metro Rings - the color placement was totally planned on my part and I completely love how it turned out. The only thing left to do is quilt it, but that is for another day...or month more like it. I have the pattern available as well as the Quick Curve Ruler on my website where we have added a lot of new notions and tools. You should get started on yours. I have always wanted to make a double wedding ring quilt, but I did not want to do all the work. When Jenny's pattern came out, I knew I had to make it because it was a simpler version of a traditional double wedding ring quilt. I am just so glad that I made something for me for a change.
Yes, they watched a movie and I listed to music - best way to travel. ;-) |
With the kids out of school we have a couple of mini vacations planned, and this week we took a trip to Las Vegas. It's a quick drive under two hours from St George, and we stayed in this fabulous resort.
It's beautiful. I put away my phone and had fun with the kids swimming and barbequing and reading. It was so amazing.
We came home yesterday and it was back to quilting. I am currently working on Thelma's Coastal Lily quilt and I love how it is turning out. I will be sure to share my progress on Facebook and Instagram and the finished quilt here as soon as I am done.
This morning sky greeted me today and I am so happy for summer skies. I hope your summer is off to a great start! I know mine is.

So glad to hear that you got to relax with your family after your crazy busy travel schedule! That is so important. And I love your Metro Rings version -- can't wait to see how you quilt it!
I just bought this pattern yesterday - can't wait to try it out (I have TWO quilts I'm working on for Moda at this time though, so it will have to wait!) Still deciding what fabric to use, but I think it might be the two jelly rolls of ''April Showers'' I got a couple months ago :) I just might have ordered yards and yards of bleached white 97 too :) Maybe :) hehe :)
yes I knew! it you should have a name that quilt contest lol

I like your Metro Rings, great color placement. I'm currently making a more conventional Double Wedding Ring quilt but think I will give the Metro Rings pattern a try another time.
I love the quilting you are doing on Coastal Lily! I have a technical question for you. You quilted some straight lines that go "underneath" the print fabric. When you do that, do you 1)tie off at the seamline? 2)do teeny-tiny stitches? 3) back-track? $) other? AND once you have done that, when you are ready to continue the line on the other side do you 1)drag your machine/thread across the print fabric (to be clipped later) or 2)do a clean start on the other side?
In any case, continuing those straight lines must have been a complete *bear* at the convergence of the stems of those 3 circle flowers!
Thanks for trying to make clear to me how you do that because I've been conflicted on the procedure. :-)
Happy holidays to you & the kids, looks like a great place to stay. Are you still coming over to New Zealand this year?
I would love to see tha answers to Shelley's questions. Those are things I've always been curious about and have no idea why I didn't ask.
Glad you had a little R and R with your family.
Love the quilting, too! :)
LOVE your Metro Rings quilt! Great job!
Lovely! I'm inspired as I need to make a Double Wedding ring for my nephew. Time to get the ruler and the pattern!
What beautiful quilting. It really takes experience and talent to come up with a quilt motif(s) like you did on Thelma's coastal lily. Your double wedding ring looks awesome too. I bet the family vacation was well earned, and lots of fun.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday with the children. Your Metro rings is stunning- totally in awe.
I love your Metro Rings: makes me want to run out and start a quilt in those lovely colors! :-) Hugs, H in Healdsburg
ah summer…yesterday i joined friends to sew for the afternoon…this morning i woke to a clear blue sky and here i sit outdoors with a gentle breeze moving the aspen leaves so they ruffle softly…the pond is running and i am happy…ah summer!
It's so wonderful to do things for yourself. Then it's great to be with your children. Then make the world go round! Your quilt look beautiful!
I just have to tell you how much I love your sky and cloud pictures, oh, and your quilting, too!
Love the metro rings quilt, looks a lot easier than the double wedding ring traditional version I made 20 years ago. Doesn't quilting get easier as years pass. Love the resort, enjoy the summer. We here in NZ are heading into winter and it is cold here in the south.
Beautiful! Blues, greens and purples are my faves right now. and Yay! for Vegas.
